Breitling Emergency

In 1995, Swiss watchmakers Breitling, introduced a watch titled ‘Emergency’, and the watch’s predominant features certainly lived up to its name. The watch contains a “built-in micro-transmitter broadcasting on the 121.5 MHz aircraft emergency frequency. The watch is a useful tool for all pilots, as should it occur that a pilot is forced to land their aircraft for any reason; the watch would be capable of transmitting an emergency signal that will allow rescuers to locate them. The watch’s signal will be able to transmit for up to 48 hours, and can be picked up from up to 100 miles away.

The watch is designed to act either alongside the planes own signalling, to raise the chances of being found, or as a replacement, should the plane’s equipment fail to work, for any varying reason.

The Emergency watch is part of the Professional model of Breitling watches, and features a titanium case and strap, and a SuperQuartz chronograph. The dial of the Emergency watch is black. The watch consists of two timepieces: the conventional analogue dial clock and a LCD display. It also includes a digital calendar, which can be programmed up to four years ahead. The dial is available with four different background colours: black, blue, yellow and coral.

The watch weighs 84.60 mm, and is 43 mm’s in diameter. It is also 15.70 mm thick.
